What is Ultrasound? How does it work?
Ultrasound imaging refers to imaging the sound waves reflected from the inside after sending sound waves of high frequency (more than 20.000 Hz) that are inaudible to our ears from the surface of the human body. Not only that, it can also observe movement and even measure blood flow inside blood vessels.
It is a very easy, accurate and convenient imaging method for diagnosing a patient's disease and observing the progress of treatment. It does not use radiation harmful to the human body and allows for rapid examination without pain.

한인 소노그래퍼(Sonographerㆍ초음파 검사자)가 초음파 검진센터를 세워 샌디에이고 지역 한인들의 영상의학적 건강검진 서비스에 획기적인 편의를 제공하고 있다.
한국 의사인 문경미 씨는 미국의 소노그래퍼 자격증을 2개(일반 초음파, 심장 초음파) 획득하고 지난 8월 솔라나 비치 시에 ‘얼라이브 초음파 영상 검진센터(Allive Ultrasound Imaging Center)’를 오픈했다.
이화여대 의대를 졸업하고 서울 성모병원, 금강 아산병원, 강북삼성병원 등에서 20여 년을 영상의학 전문의로서 활동해 오던 자신이, 2019년 이민을 오면서 의료 경험과 의학지식을 일시에 묵혀 둔다는 것이 의료인으로서 비생산적인 일로 여겨졌다고 한다.
미국 의료 시스템은 소노그래퍼가 환자를 검사하고 의사가 영상판독 결과를 내지만 한국에서는 영상의학 전문의가 직접 촬영하고 검사도 하고 ‘판독 결과’도 내린다. 초음파 검사는 ‘아는 만큼 보인다’는 것이 이 분야의 통설로 여겨질 만큼 검진 경험과 의학 지식이 높이 요구되고 있다.
이곳에서는 원장인 문경미 소노그래퍼가 환자들의 검사가 가능한 모든 신체 부위의 개별 검진을 직접 해주고 있다. 특별히 구성한 ‘초음파 건강검진’ 패키지는 예방의학적 검진 효과를 높여 주고 있다.
▶여성 종합검진(복부, 골반, 유방 검사) ▶남성 종합검진(복부, 전립선, 심장 스크리닝 검사) ▶뇌졸중 스크리닝 검사(복부, 경동맥 검사) 등이 이 패키지에 들어 있다. 이 중 복부 검진에는 간, 담낭, 췌장, 비장, 신장 등의 장기가 포함돼 있어 효과적인 예방 검진이 되고 있다. 검진 수가도 일반 병원이나 의료 기관보다는 훨씬 저렴하다는 평을 받고 있다.
검사 장비는 최첨단 필립스사 제품들을 들여와 사용하고 있는데 이동식 휴대 장비도 갖추고 있어 출장 검사도 가능하다.
